Guess what? I just won the “Best Artist Award” at the Tokyo National Art Center!
No shit! 😎
Now, before you start imagining grand ceremonies, champagne toasts and Geisha in kimono, let me tell you a little secret: this award is probably as well-known as your neighbor’s cat. 🐱
It’s a tiny tiny award, and I can almost hear any art professional saying, “Who? What?” But some SNS folks who are not in the art field told me: “An award is an award! No matter its size or recognition, it should be celebrated!”
Personally, I find this mentality a bit off (scratch that, I hate it). If it’s not a Grammy, a Pulitzer, or the Duchamp Prize, I don’t really see the point in bothering people with it.... But here I am, sharing it anyway. Because why not? Maybe it will make for a great conversation starter, as they say. It is the 21st century, baby!
Should we celebrate only excellence, or should we also broadcast the minor, low-hanging achievements?
Someone told me, “Maybe this tiny award is just the beginning of something bigger!”
Well, we’ll see. 😎
