The labyrinth, or single circuitous path, is one of mankind’s oldest artistic creations and has been drawn since antiquity in different places around the world, bearing different meanings, both religious and profane.

I have always been fascinated by labyrinths and mazes, by their complexity and their geometrical aspects. My aim is to further explore their aesthetic and pictorial features and thus draw them as abstract pieces of art rather than puzzle games. The solubility of a maze, however, is crucial and should not be overlooked. After all, if a maze has no solution, then it is not a maze!

Walking through or tracing out a labyrinth is a kind of pilgrimage, but the interplay between the pilgrim and a beautifully-constructed maze cannot be genuine if the path leads nowhere…
